Bows for Sale

The Peter Zaret & Sons Violins shop has an extensive inventory of superb Bows, ranging from Old Masters to high-quality new bows from around the world. Our store selection includes bows for the most discriminating professional and/or collector, to those bows which will work very well for students. We number among our clients classical musicians, jazz violinists, bluegrass and country fiddlers, Suzuki students, and students and teachers from all over the United States.

Over the years, we have successfully helped hundreds of string players find a bow that is ideal for his or her individual playing style and instrument.

Below is a sampling of some of the choicer bows in our collection.

Condition is Critical

Although bows improve with age similarly to string instruments, unlike string instruments, they can simply wear out. In addition, whereas cracks in older instruments are routinely repaired without much of a loss of monetary value, cracks in bows significantly reduce their monetary value. So acquiring older bows that have retained both their value and their playability is challenging, particularly French Bows (which are considered the most desirable) as well as bows from Switzerland and Germany, among others. Fortunately, due to our reputation in the string instrument community, we are continually offered fine bows to buy or take on consignment. In recent years, our collection has included the works of Sartory, Lamy, Voirin, Peccatte, Fetique, Bazin, Morizot, Finkel and Nurnberger. We usually have some good examples of these works available.

In addition to our older bows our inventory includes new and/or recently made bows by very talented and well known bow makers. These are bows that we believe will improve with age. We also carry the two best known carbon fiber bows for violin, viola, cello and bass by Benoit Rolland and Coda. Many people prefer these bows to the traditional bows made of pernambuco wood. They are reasonably priced and their durability is guaranteed by their makers.

If you are seeking a fine violin, viola, cello or bass bow we invite you to call or visit the store and find out what we have to offer. Of course, our collection is always changing. Our staff will be happy to show you our offerings or if you are from out of state and desire not to travel we will be happy to send some bows to you. They will be shipped within 48 hours unless there is a scarcity.

We work directly with the students, parents, and teachers.
